50th Anniversary

50th Anniversary celebrations launch this September!

The School's 50th Anniversary Committee has been working hard preparing a programme of celebrations that will run from September this year through to July 2009.

We're aiming to provide something for everyone, including current and former students, staff members, governors, parents, supporters and the local community at large.

At the start of the new school year in September, and for the first time in many years, there will be a whole school photograph.

All the students will be given a Year Planner with a special cover depicting the adopted 50th Anniversary poster design, and they will also receive a commemorative pin-badge as an anniversary memento.

Plans for a commemorative book charting the school's history are well in hand.  The process of interviews, collating recollections and unearthing photographs from a wealth of sources is continuing.  The book is due to be published towards the end of this year.  Look out for details of costs and discounts for early orders!

A Thanksgiving Celebration at Chester Cathedral will take place on Friday 21 November at 7pm.  The School is working hard to put together a nostalgia-packed, one-hour event with live music, choral music, and reminiscences. This will be a great opportunity to showcase the extraordinary talent within the school.  The event is free and is open to everyone, and we hope that many of the current students will also attend.  However, tickets will be required, and these will be available from October - more details to follow.

In April 2009, a group of Year 11 students will have the opportunity to visit Nepal, where they will trek in the Annapurna Sanctuary and participate in a community project.  The trip is likely to be a life-changing experience for these Christleton students, who will be training hard for the adventure beforehand.  They'll also be busy raising sponsorship, so don't be surprised if you are approached!  The retiring collection from the Cathedral service will go towards the community project, which is to raise funds for a primary school in Kathmandu, and in particular to buy shelving for their library and also to spend time with the Nepalese children in the school.

Next, we intend to hold a School Open Day on the afternoon of Saturday, 16 May 2009, featuring a number of events that we hope will appeal to all age groups.  The plans are still being developed.

The grand finale of the Anniversary celebrations will be a Grand Ball at Chester Racecourse on the evening of 4 July 2009.  There will be a sumptuous meal, live music and entertainment lasting into the early hours.  Another definite date for the diary!

If you haven't done so already, you can register your interest with the School through the website: www.christletonhigh.co.uk  email: anniversary@christletonhigh.co.uk or telephone the School on 01244 335843.
