Sox
Sadly, we have to report that Sox, our school cat passed away on 31st January 2011.
He adopted us in 2002 and lived here happily for 9 years. Sox had been ill for some time with diabetes, and was also very recently diagnosed with a tumour. His condition would have deteriorated further, causing considerable suffering and so he was put to sleep peacefully.
Sox was such a special cat who will be missed by many.
We hope you will still enjoy reading about him and his time with us:
My name is Sox and I am the Christleton High School cat. I can't remember how old I am, but my friends think I'm about 15. My first family moved away from the village and left me, but I wasn't too sad as I preferred to spend the winter months in school, curled up on the 'sick bay' sofa where there is usually someone to cuddle up to.
When the school is closed I stay with Auntie Irene who lives next to the school field. She is really kind, feeds me lots of goodies, and lets me sleep by the fire. At Christmas time I get to dine with them for lunch and they usually let me wear a paper hat! I love that.
A few years ago I felt really poorly and lost my appetite. My friends in school took me to see the vet and now I have 2 injections every day and some special diabetic food. Staff and students raise funds for my medication - the Office held a yummy cake sale, and I was allowed to have some of the cream from a scone! I feel much better now, although sometimes I get told off for walking too slowly when someone is holding a door open for me.
I've been told that the Art Department is making a sculpture of me in willow, to be displayed in the Maths block very soon. I am such a famous cat!
If you see me when you come into school, I would love you to say hello.

Sox Mural
During Enrichment Week in the summer term 2010, Year 9 students created a wall mural for the undercover area near the Maths Block. The mural was made using a combination of natural materials, including willow and driftwood, which were built up over a wooden frame to create a cat face inspired by Sox. The border was created using pebbles and mosaic in patterned circles designed by the students.
Miss Dentith, our Art Technician who designed the mural with the students, said: "The first thing I noticed when I came to the school was Sox the cat. It amazed me how a high school could have a cat that everyone respects and cares for. When asked to produce a wall mural with Year 9 students on a subject of my choice, my first thought was Sox. He is a really important part of life at Christleton High School, and the longevity of this well cared for and happy cat speaks volumes about the school's caring and courteous ethos!"
