Health and Social Care

Health and Social care introduces students to a wide variety of work in evaluating a range of health and social care services and organisations, increasing their knowledge and developing awareness of influences on an individual's health and well-being, and examining the influences on individual development.

The Department is well resourced with a dedicated teaching area and good IT facilities.  Wherever possible we make lessons topical and invite guest speakers who work within the health and social care industry to come into school to talk to students.  We also base some of our lessons on work experience and visits to local primary schools.

Assessment

All assessment for both GCSE and A Level is 60% coursework/controlled assessment and 40% external examination.

Controlled assessment for GCSE will be based on work experience, so students taking this course should be willing to do their Year 11 work experience in a health care, social care or early years care environment (most often a nursery or primary school).

You do not need to have studied Health and Social Care at GCSE to study it at A Level, but it is compulsory to complete a week's work experience at the beginning of Year 12.  This gives essential background knowledge which enriches coursework.
