Information Communication Technology

Students at Christleton High School have access to a wide range of specialist ICT equipment which allows them to use up to date hardware and software both in ICT lessons and to support learning in their other subjects. The department has a suite of 4 specialist ICT rooms, with colour printing facilities, scanners, digital video and still photography. Students have the use of a large number of software applications and packages to support learning.

In ICT, students follow the KS3 programme of study during Year 7 and Year 8.  Both years follow a themed approach where they undertake a number of different tasks.  In Year 7 this includes the production of video trailers, using spreadsheets, writing games in Scratch, producing leaflets and presentations.  In Year 8, students further develop this work by using new software such as web authoring tools, Flash and databases to develop high level skills.

In Year 9 students start the modularized OCR Level 2 National Award in ICT, a Level 2 qualification worth 2 GCSE’s. In Year 9 students will complete modules in the production of audio, video and a longer unit on Multimedia. Students continue this work in their Core ICT lessons in KS4.

In Year 10 and Year 11, students have the option of choosing the EdExcel DiDA qualification. Most students taking this option will complete a double award over the 2 years.  In addition, all students continue with Core ICT to complete their OCR National Award.

Students in the Sixth Form have the option of studying A-Level Computing or A-Level ICT.

Throughout all our teaching we are committed to providing a safe environment in which students use the ICT facilities by making E-Safety a regular part of lessons.
