Maths
We believe that Maths should be both interesting and enjoyable. Students should be challenged and encouraged to fulfil their potential. Upon entering the school in Year 7, students are set based on the score achieved in their KS2 test.
Years 7 and 8
The year groups are divided into two parallel bands of 4 sets. These sets remain flexible and are changed as a result of regular assessments of the students to ensure that all students are working at the correct level for their ability.
Years 9 and 10
Students in sets 1, 2 and 3 follow the Edexcel linear GCSE specification and sit their exam in the Summer of Year 10. Students in set 4 follow Edexcel's modular specification and take regular exams throughout the two years that accumulate in a GCSE by the end of Year 10.
Year 11
Students follow a flexible programme which allows them to choose from a variety of courses, including AS Maths modules, GCSE Statistics, Functional Skills and Personal Finance. Those yet to achieve a Grade C or above in GCSE Maths are given the opportunity to retake the exam.
Years 12 and 13
In the Sixth Form, students follow Edexcel's specification. The course includes modules in Pure Mathematics, Statistics, Mechanics and Decision Mathematics. For the more able, we also offer both A Level and AS Level Further Maths which extends the A Level topics to a higher level.
