Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education

Personal Wellbeing helps young people to embrace change, feel positive about who they are and enjoy healthy, safe, responsible and fulfilled lives.  Personal wellbeing makes a major contribution to the promotion of personal development.

Citizenship equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for effective and democratic participation.  It helps students to become informed, critical, active citizens who have the confidence and conviction to work collaboratively, take action and to try to make a difference in their communities and the wider world.

PSHCE deals with the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL).  SEAL is a formalised method of developing confidence in students, a positive attitude to school and, in the process, helping them to improve their emotional wellbeing.

In the academic year 2010-11, PSHCE is providing opportunities to work with multi-agency groups from outside school.  Guest speakers include Cheshire West and Chester Council's Road Safety Unit; City Magistrates; Homophobia workshops; Connexions; Careers Advisers; Financial experts; Health & Relationship Consultants.  With the help and support of several multi-agency groups in the community, the list continues to grow.  There will also be PSHCE and Citizenship events and activities.  Certain elements of Citizenship are included in other subject areas, particularly English and Core Religious Education.

We will also soon be introducing the GCSE specification for General Studies, which has been designed to broaden student awareness, develop thinking and functional skills, and extend curriculum and PSHE Citizenship programmes.
