Headteacher welcomes new staff

(Posted on 10/01/20)

Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas.

At the start of the new term, we welcome two new members of staff. Mr Herd joins us from Rainhill High School as our Head of Modern Foreign Languages and Mr Isherwood joins our IT support team. We extend a warm welcome to both and hope they have long successful careers with us. In the Maths department, we welcome back Mrs Monks from her maternity leave.

We are approaching the end of Week one of Sixth Form mock exams. These are particularly important mocks for Year 13 as they enter their final full term with us. Year 11 mock exam results will be available next Wednesday and students should collect them from the Sixth Form Common Room at 12:00.

I would like to give a general reminder of some of the weekly activities on offer in school:

SIXTH FORM DEBATE CLUB – MR ROSE

Sixth Form Debate Club will held in Room 16 on Thursday lunchtimes 12.30-1.00pm.

DAILY LUNCHTIME ART COMMUNITY - MRS PRITCHARD

The lunchtime Art Community is now as follows:

Friday - Art Hot Scholars

INDEPENDENT RESEARCH – HOME LEARNING SESSION - MR HOLLYWOOD

PATHWAY ADVISOR APPOINTMENTS WITH SYLVIA WOOD

Every Thursday (all day), Sylvia Wood, our Pathway Advisor is available for individual appointments. Students should see Mrs Varley in the School Office if they would like an appointment to meet with Sylvia.

The start of a new year is always a time for reflection. 2019 was, in many ways, a momentous year and one not without its difficulties. The school celebrated its 60th anniversary and saw significant changes in its leadership. For our country, the political uncertainty led to some rather anxious and soul searching times for all of us. The level of debate was often unpleasant and divisive. I hope that 2020 sees a change in tone; my wish is for kinder, more respectful discourse, more tolerance for our weaknesses and more acceptance of our differences. Kindness is very much an underrated value. I hope 2020 is a good year for you and your families.
