Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to my first Headteacher’s Blog! My intention is to use this weekly blog to keep you informed of all the wonderful things that your children do in school.

I hope you have had an enjoyable summer break and I thank you for all your messages in support of the school and for your kind words on A-Level and GCSE results days. It really is greatly appreciated.

We have been celebrating the fantastic achievements of our young people in Year 13 and Year 11. It was wonderful to watch them receiving their results with all their hard work coming to fruition. We wish our Year 13 students every success in their undoubtedly bright futures as they undertake their next important steps.  We are delighted that so many of our Year 11 students have chosen to stay with us in our Sixth Form, together with nearly 40 students from other schools; it is our largest enrolment into Year 12 for a significant number of years.

Our new Year 7 students have made an excellent start to life at Christleton High School. They arrived smartly dressed, smiling and very excited, if a little nervous, about their very first day in High School. However, after a very short amount of time, any fears they may have encountered were soon allayed and they were moving around school like they had been here for years! This week has seen them making new friends, learning lots of new things and becoming fully fledged members of the Christleton Family.

Over the summer break, the school has undergone a programme of refurbishment. All of the corridors and many classrooms have been re-painted, with new carpets laid and new furniture in place. We are still awaiting the delivery of lockers and I am pleased to report that the new lift to the Art corridor will soon be operational, providing disabled access to upper floors. We are very grateful to the Marjorie Boddy Charitable Trust in fully funding this particular improvement in our infrastructure. All in all, the school is looking really smart, a modern, bright and positive learning environment for our students and staff.

The start of the year always brings with it some new faces and I would like to welcome the following staff to our Christleton Family:

Ms Allan – History/Sociology

Mrs Ashman – SENDCO/RS

Miss Brown – History

Mrs Chesworth – Assistant Headteacher/Science

Miss Davies – Maths

Miss Jones – MFL

Ms Malone – EWO/Behaviour

Mr Smith – Deputy Headteacher/Geography

Miss Thomas – PE

Miss Twigg – Computer Science

Mrs York – First aid/Admin

I would also like to mention our Twitter and Facebook accounts, both of which are used as vehicles to both communicate with you and to celebrate the incredible talents of our students. If you have a Twitter or Facebook account, please do follow us. However, any enquiries or concerns should still be directed to the enquiries email address (enquiries@christletonhigh.co.uk), rather than through social media.

It is a privilege to serve as Headteacher and I am very much looking forward to leading this wonderful school on the next stage of its journey, and I look forward to working with you in the years ahead, to ensure your children fulfil their own ambitions.  So that we can continue to improve at a rapid pace, we really do need your support as parents and carers around the basics such as uniform, attendance and punctuality; young people attending school with the correct equipment, ready to learn, makes a massive difference to school life.

The weather seems to have taken an autumnal turn this week, but I wish you an enjoyable weekend, when our new Year 7 students can relax and get some well-earned rest after what must have been an exhausting first week for them! This has been a very successful start and the staff and I are incredibly excited about the year ahead.

My very best wishes

DP Jones
