The curtain is set to rise on a production of a smash hit West End and Broadway musical being staged at a Chester High School.
Students at Christleton High School are preparing to take to the stage in a production of the popular musical "Sister Act" which famously starred Whoopi Goldberg in the  original box office busting film. The show, featuring upper School students aged between 15 and 18 will run at the School from Wednesday 20th November - Saturday 23rd November at 7pm with a matinee performance at 2pm on Saturday 23rd November. With a cast of 31 and a live band of 12 musicians on stage, the show follows on from the School's successful staging of "Annie" earlier this year.

Taking on the lead role of Whoopi Goldberg's character, Deloris Van Cartier is 16 year old Chumisa Dornford-May who previously played played Mimi in the School's production of "RENT" and last year appeared as Cinderella for Chester Operatic Society at St Mary's A Creative Space. Joining Chumisa in playing leading roles are 15 year old Archie Pytches as bad guy Curtis, 15 year old Ben Rackham as good guy Eddie and 17 year old Jess Thomas as Mother Superior, a role which will be played by Jennifer Saunders in the brand new West End production of the show next year.

Speaking about the production, Simon Phillips, Head of Performing Arts at Christleton High School said "Sister Act is a feel-good musical comedy smash based on the hit 1992 film that will have audiences jumping to their feet! Featuring original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), this uplifting musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, Sister Act is a sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship."

Simon added "Sister Act tells the story of disco diva Deloris Van Cartier who having witnessed a murder, is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be a found, a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood. The students involved have worked extremely hard to bring the production to the stage and they can't wait for the audience to enjoy the show."

Tickets for "Sister Act" can be booked via the School's online Box Office facility at www.christletonhigh.co.uk
