We commemorate His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip's role as founder of the Duke of Edinburgh Award

(Posted on 12/04/21)

Our thoughts are with the Royal Family on the sad news of the passing of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh. As Patron and Founder of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, he had a lifelong commitment to empowering and changing the lives of young people across the world.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an important opportunity at Christleton High School for past, present and future students and staff. Thousands of students have benefitted from taking on the personal challenge over the past 30 plus years and we will continue the legacy to empower young people to build the skills, confidence and resilience they need to make the most of their lives.

My lasting memory of meeting The Duke was during a Gold Award Presentation at St James’ Palace. I was accompanying 15 Christleton Gold achievers and I had the fortune to be introduced to His Royal Highness, before I presented the students to Him. His commitment and interest in the young people was very apparent, as he chatted with them, with wit and humour, about how they achieved the Gold award.

In the Duke’s memory, all those who have been involved in the award as a students, volunteers or supporters are being encouraged to share their stories and memories online at https://www.dofe.org/
